Reset Guide: GMC Envoy Oil Life Oil Change Light (2002-2009) – GMC Envoy is a mid-range SUV manufactured by GMC. The Envoy was introduced in 1998 as a more luxurious version of the GMC S-15 Jimmy but became a separate model in 2002.

Envoy returned to the market in 2002, replacing the GMC S-15 Jimmy as a stand-alone model. While the car shared a platform with the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, its design varied. The earlier version used a 270 hp (201 kW) I6 Vortec 4200 engine, and later models were offered with a 275 hp (205 kW) engine.

When the system has calculated that oil life has exceeded the specified service interval, a CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will come on. You must perform an oil change on your vehicle and reset the system. Depending on your vehicle model, here are a few ways to reset the oil life light on 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 GMC Envoy:

  1. Place the ignition to the RUN position without starting the engine

    If your vehicle has the keyless starting system, hold down the ENGINE START/STOP button without pressing the brake pedal

  2. Fully depress the GAS pedal, three times within 5 seconds

    Don’t rush, make sure you press it fully

  3. Turn off the ignition

    Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once

  4. Verify the indicator has been reset by starting the engine

    Done!
