Last Updated on August 10, 2021 by Christ

What’s going on, everybody? I’m here, and this is going to be a tech tip on how to reset the service light in your BMW 2-Series F23/G42. Obviously, the easiest way to do this is with a diagnostic tool. However, we’re not going to show you how to do it with that because that’s too easy, and most of you will not have that.

So if you have an oil change or brake pads, or brake fluid change, or did a full service on your car and want to reset all these condition-based service indicators, there is also a manual way of doing that, and it doesn’t require any tool at all. So let’s go ahead now and try it for ourselves.

  1. First of all go ahead and turn on your car without starting

You’re going to use the START button, so you press it in without actually starting the car

  2. Hold down the RESET button

Then what you do is press the RESET button on the bottom left hand and then hold it down so it’ll take you on to any of the maintenance lights

This is for the latest generation of BMW 2-Series and you can reset the service interval using the BC button on the end of the left lever. So let’s try to do it.

  • Hit the start button three times quickly and wait until the Diagnostic Mode Active message comes up
  • Then you need to hold the BC button down for a couple of seconds to bring you to the reset menu

  • From there you can scroll the different service. Use the BC button to scroll through the menu until you get to the ENGINE OIL
  • To reset it you need to hold down the BC button again and it’ll ask you about the resetting
  • Finally you let it go and hold it again one more time to confirm it and you’re done
