Mercedes Benz CL-Class Automatic Transmission Reset (C216) – The C216 is the name of a large coupe car produced by Mercedes-Benz from 2006 to December 2013 and constitutes the third set of the so-called CL-Class, the class of the coupé admirals of the German House. On September 13, 2006, at the Paris Motor Show, the new luxury coupe was introduced to replace the previous CL C215 in the Mercedes-Benz range. Following the traditional succession of serial numbers between different generations belonging to the same market segment, the new car carried the design code C216.

The CL C216 shares platform and mechanics with the W221 sedan, but also the technologies mounted by the latter. The steel and light alloy body, designed in accordance with advanced deformation criteria, provides solutions such as independent wheel suspension with transverse arm front and oblique arm and multilink rear. No manual transmissions for the CL C216: the CL 500 and CL 63 AMG was equipped with an automatic sequential gearbox, electronically controlled 7-speed 7G-Tronic now also mounted on some other models in the house, while the other two versions were equipped with automatic sequential 5-speed.

If your transmission changes gear when not expected you should reset it. This procedure should help if your transmission shifts randomly or jerks, or if you are experiencing random downshifts or upshifts.

Method 1:

  • Make sure the vehicle is at a complete stop
  • Switch ON the ignition, but don’t start the engine
  • Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for not less than 30 seconds
  • Release the accelerator pedal
  • Start the car and drive.

Method 2:

Time Needed : 7 minutes

  1. Make sure the vehicle is at a complete stop

  2. Switch ON the ignition, but don't start the engine

  3. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for not less than 30 seconds

  4. Turn off the ignition (position 0) but Don’t remove the key.

  5. Release the accelerator pedal

  6. Wait for 5 minutes and then remove the key

  7. Start the car and drive.
