Reset Guide: Ford Mustang Oil Life/Oil Change Light (2010-2021)

Greetings to one and everyone! Another article on how to do it yourself from Chris, and now I’m going to produce simple stuff that isn’t complicated at all. Today’s post focuses on the Ford Mustang oil life, or oil change light reset.
So your Ford Mustang has an engine oil change due message? This implies you must quickly replace your vehicle’s oil and reset the oil light minder system afterward. So here are a couple of ways to reset the oil life indicator on your car.

2010-2021 Ford Mustang Oil Change Minder/Oil Life Light Reset Guide
Warning! Please note your vehicle model. This tutorial will hold true for the fifth and sixth generations of the Ford Mustang (2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 model years).
5th Generation (2010-2014)
The fifth generation of Ford Mustang was marketed from 2005 to 2014. In this generation, there are three options for resetting the oil life. Depending on your Mustang’s trim level, below are instructions on how to reset the engine oil life.
With Setup Button
Time needed: 3 minutes
As with this generation, your car has a message center button on the instrument panel or the steering wheel. As a result, here’s how you reset it:
- Turn on the ignition without starting the engine
To begin, turn the accessory key after putting your keys in the ignition
- Press the SETUP button briefly until “OIL LIFE % HOLD RESET = NEW” appears on the screen
There are two keys on this steering wheel or the left panel that you’ll need to press in order to complete this operation. So click the SETUP button until you see the OIL LIFE on the dashboard display
- Press the RESET button for 2 seconds
Next, you’ll hit the RESET button and hold it for as long as necessary until the readout shows OIL LIFE SET TO 100%
- Start the car
Once you’ve finished, you may turn the key in the ignition to make sure everything is in working order
With Steering Control Button
Follow the steps below if your vehicle is equipped with multi-information display and control buttons on the steering wheel. So all you got to do is:
- Get in the car you press the button to start the vehicle but you do not step on the accelerator pedal
- The lights will come up on the dashboard and once everything is okay then you’re gonna press the OK button to clear any message
- When you come up to the main menu you just click down on the ▼ buttons until you get to the SETTINGS and then you’re gonna press the ►button
- Next, you’re gonna see it’s already on VEHICLE but if it was not on the vehicle option you can scroll as needed till you get the menu and you press the ► right button
- After that, you want to enter the OIL LIFE RESET
- At this point, you would actually press and hold the OK button and it’ll reset to 100%
6th Generation (2015-2021)
The most recent model is the sixth generation, which was unveiled in 2015. So here are the steps to reset the engine oil life on the sixth-generation Ford Mustang.
Display Control Type 1
- Pressing the Start button once is all that is required to get started
- Click OK on the steering wheel’s right side to dismiss through the list of messages
- To access the main menu, you’ll first need to press the ◄ left arrow on your directional pad
- We’ll then go down to SETTINGS and press OK
- Next, click OK on the VEHICLE
- Take a look at OIL LIFE RESET by scrolling down and clicking on it
- As the last step, you just press the middle OK button for a few seconds to bring the battery level back up to 100%
Display Control Type 2
- Start the car by pressing the START button while removing your foot from the brake pedal
- You may access the SETTINGS menu by pressing the little gear-shaped button adjacent to the horn’s
- You may then choose ADVANCED SETTINGS using the buttons on the steering wheel
- Next, click OK on the VEHICLE button
- After that, choose OIL LIFE RESET by navigating through this menu and pressing the OK key
- At this point, all you have to do is press OK and hold it until the bar reaches the end, at which time it will indicate reset completely
