The fuel pump shut-off (inertia) switch is a device that stops the fuel pump of the fuel delivery to the engine. If your engine cranks but does not start, this switch may have been activated. Here’s how to find and reset the switch:
- On the Ford E-350/E-250/E-150, On diesel-powered vehicles, this switch is located in the front passenger’s footwell, by the kick panel. May you need to remove the lower scuff plate to access the switch.
- On commercial stripped chassis vehicles, this switch is located on a bracket above the brake pedal. May you need to remove the lower scuff plate to access the switch.
- Make sure to turn off your vehicle
- Pushing in the Fuel pump shut-off (inertia) switch
- Turn the ignition to the ON position (Do not turn the ignition to ‘START) and wait a few seconds and return the key to off position.

After replacing a supposed defective fuel pump, vehicle didn’t engine didn’t run, client not mentioned that the vehicle received an impact by te front passenger side that triggered the inertia switch, after resetting the switch vehicle ran perfectly, lesson always check for heavy impacts on the vehicle or by potholes it might trigger that switch.

My 06 e250 I changed the fuel filter on it thinking that was the problem it when I shut it off it wouldn’t start back it just crank well I noticed then I hook my ob2 scanner to it and it wouldn’t read it when normally it would any other time so that’s the problem I’ll shut it off and then try to restart it it won’t start and then at that time the lb2 scanner will not work
