2005 Mercedes-Benz S350 Timing Marks Diagram (M272 Engine) – W221 is the name code of a luxury passenger car produced from 2005 to 2013 from Mercedes-Benz, and that is the end range called S-Class from the German manufacturer. The first images of the car that would replace the W220 began to be widespread in 2003: in fact, they were virtual reconstructions, which in many ways we’re still not very close to the definitive car but which in other ways could have been probable.

Some of these reconstructions, in fact, showed a stylistic kinship with some concept cars presented a short time before, in particular in the front, which was reminiscent of the Vision GST, in turn, forerunner of the next Class R. The final car debut took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2005, both in a regular version and in the Long version, the latter marked with the V221 designation. They were two trim levels: Elegance and Avantgarde.

The 40º marking (1) on the belt pulley must be aligned with the positioning edge (2) on the timing case cover. The markings (3) on the camshaft adjusters face upward, and the markings (4) align with the contact surfaces on the cylinder head covers. For more details, please watch the following video:

The 3.5-liter version is the most varied since there are four different versions, one of which is to direct and even a hybrid injection. It is also the version that boasts the highest number of models available in the Mercedes-Benz range. The 3.5 M272 features bore and stroke dimensions of 92.9×86 mm, for a total displacement of 3498 cm³. The only direct injection variant carries the abbreviation M272DE35 (where DE is going to Direkteinspritzung), while the other three in an indirect injection are initiated as M272KE35 (KE = Kanaleinspritzung). In addition to the type of feeding adopted, the four levels of performance are obtained due to different compression ratios.
