Reset Guide: Land Rover Discovery LR3 LR4 Oil Service Required Light (2004-2021) – The Land Rover Discovery is a 4×4 off-road vehicle produced by the British manufacturer Land Rover. When you exceed the next scheduled service interval, the Oil Service Required message will display in the screen. This indicator system must be reset after performed the maintenance on your Land Rover Discovery. Depending on your vehicle model years, here are a few ways to reset the service required light:

2nd Generation (L319)

This is the second generation of the Land Rover Discovery. There are two ways to reset the oil service required light in this generation. Depending on your vehicle type, here are how to reset the service required light:

Discovery 3 / LR3 (2004-2009)

In this model you can access the reset mode through the Trip button. Here’s how to do it:

  • Press and hold the TRIP button

  • Turn on the ignition without starting the engine
  • Keep hold the TRIP button until SERVICE message appears and start flashing
  • Release the button when the SERVICE message stop flashing
  • In this mode you can choose to reset DIST (Distance) and DATE (Duration) by pressing the TRIP button briefly
  • Select one and then press the TRIP button until RESET appears on the display
  • When done, cycle to END and then press the TRIP button to exit the mode
  • Turn off the ignition and then start the engine to confirm the service light has been reset

Discovery 4 / LR4 (2010-2016)

Time needed: 7 minutes

Different from the previous mode, you can reset the service light using the gas and brake pedals for this 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 model years. Follow this step to get started:

  1. Open the bonnet (hood) and close all doors

    Make sure your vehicle stops in a safe place

  2. Place the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine

    If your vehicle has the keyless starting system, press the START/STOP button once without pressing the brake pedal

  3. Open the driver’s door

    Make sure you open driver’s-side door

  4. Fully depress and hold the BRAKE and GAS pedals for 30 seconds

    On the new model, the “Service Resetting” message will appears in the display

  5. Turn off the ignition

    Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once

  6. Verify the indicator has been reset by starting the engine

    Done!

3rd Generation (L462)

The third generation is today’s latest models, this generation was introduced since 2017. Just like the previous generation, you can access the service reset mode using the gas and brake pedals. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open the bonnet and the driver’s door
  • Place the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
  • Fully depress and hold the BRAKE and GAS pedals for 30 seconds
  • Turn off the ignition and then start the engine to confirm the service light has been reset
