The fuel pump shut-off (inertia) switch is a device that stops the fuel pump of the fuel delivery to the engine. If your engine cranks but does not start, this switch may have been activated. Here’s how to find and reset the switch:

  1. On the 2000-2007 Ford F-250, the fuel pump shut-off switch is located in the passenger’s footwell, by the kick panel. May you need to remove the lower scuff plate to access the switch.

  2. On the 2008-2010 Ford F-250, This switch is located on the passenger’s side of the instrument panel. Open the front passenger door and remove the small access panel.

  3. Make sure to turn off your vehicle

  4. Pushing in the Fuel pump shut-off (inertia) switch

  5. Turn the ignition to the ON position (Do not turn the ignition to ‘START) and wait a few seconds and return the key to off position.

  1. 2002 f250 will crank but wont start i check 1st by shooting starting fluid in the intake and it started shop says its my pcm but im leary of that cause if it starts with starting fluid would it be the Fuel Inertia Switch needs to bee checked also i dont get codes when i check is it the pcm

    • Try the shut-off (inertia) switch I have a 04 f250 and mine did the same thing and that’s what it was hop this is helpful
