Oil Life Reset: Jeep Wrangler Oil Change Required Light (2008-2021) – The Jeep Wrangler is an off-road vehicle produced by the American car manufacturer Jeep since 1987 to replace the CJ. Over the years, four different series have been made, named YJ, TJ, JK, and JL.
In 2007 the third generation of the Wrangler was introduced, called the JK. It was available in 3.8 petrol and 2.8 diesel versions. The fourth-generation was introduced in 2018.

When you exceed the next scheduled oil change interval, the Oil Change Required light will display in the screen. This indicator system must be reset after performed the maintenance on your vehicle. 3rd Generation JK (2008-2017)
Time needed: 7 minutes
The easiest way to reset the oil light on the Jeep Wrangler is by pressing the gas pedal. Here’s how to get started:
- Place the ignition to the RUN position without starting the engine
If your vehicle has the keyless starting system, press the ENGINE START/STOP button twice without pressing the brake pedal
- Fully depress the GAS pedal, three times within 10 seconds
Don’t rush, make sure you press it fully
- Turn off the ignition
Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once
- Verify the indicator has been reset by starting the engine
Done!
4th Generation JL (2018-2021)
For the vehicles 2018 model year or above, you can reset the oil through gas pedal or through the instrument cluster by using the EVIC control buttons. Here’s how to do it:
With Gas Pedal
The fastest way to reset the oil light on the Jeep Wrangler is by depressing the GAS pedal three times within 10 seconds after turning on the ignition without starting the engine.
With Cluster Display
- Press the ENGINE START/STOP button twice without pressing the brake pedal to make the vehicle in the RUN position without start the engine
- Go to the VEHICLE INFO by using the ▼navigation button
- Scroll to the OIL LIFE menu by using the ◄ ►navigation button
- Press and hold the OK button to execute the oil life reset
