Reset Guide: Subaru Forester Oil Change Maintenance Light (2014-2021) – The Subaru Forester is a medium SUV produced by Subaru since 1997. It has now reached its 5th generation with the new model presented in March 2018.

Motorized with a boxer engine like almost all Subaru, it has a low weight for this size machine. There are currently three engine versions on the market: the 2.0i petrol version with automatic or manual gearbox, the 2.0i Bi-Fuel version with the engine capable of running on petrol or LPG, and the 2.0D diesel version.

Reset Guide: Subaru Forester Oil Change Maintenance Light (2014-2021)

When the preset maintenance period arrives, a notification screen will be displayed. You must change the corresponding maintenance item’s setting after performing an oil change or maintenance on your vehicle. Depending on your vehicle model, here are a few ways to reset the maintenance light on the 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 Subaru Forester:

4th Generation (SJ)

For this fourth generation model, you can reset the maintenance light through the multi function display. There are 2 ways to do this, depending on your vehicle model year, here’s how to reset it:

2014-2016 Model Years

Time needed: 7 minutes

Follow these instructions if your vehicle is made in 2014 2015 2016:

  1. Place the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine

    If your vehicle has the keyless starting system, press the ENGINE START/STOP button twice without pressing the brake pedal

  2. Go to the SELECTION screen by using the ▲ or ▼ button

    The button is located on the steering wheel

  3. Pull and hold the ⓘ/SET button to enter the menu

    Pull the button for 3 seconds

  4. Select MAINTENANCE

    Use the ▲ or ▼ button to scroll and pull ⓘ/SET to select

  5. Select MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE or ENGINE OIL

    In this menu you can set a maintenance reminder at a specific interval by adjust the Notification Date or Notification Distance

  6. Select SET when you finish setting up

    Done!

2017-2018 Model Years

  • Place the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
  • Go to the SETTINGS screen by using the ▲ or ▼ button
  • Hold down the ENTER button to enter the menu
  • Select MAINTENANCE
  • Select MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE or ENGINE OIL
  • Select SET when you finish setting up

5th Generation (SK; 2019-2021)

This is the latest generation of the Subaru Impreza. Just like the previous generation, you can set the maintenance minder at a specific interval through multi function display. Here’s how to do it:

  • Place the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
  • Go to the SELECTION screen by pressing the INFO button repeatedly
  • Pull and hold the ⓘ/SET button to enter the menu
  • Select MAINTENANCE by using the ▲or▼ button to scroll and pull the ⓘ/SET button to select
  • Select MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE or ENGINE OIL
  • Select SET when you finish setting up

 Repeat this guide to reset Oil Filter or Tires if needed.
