How to Reset Oil Service Light On BMW 7-Series (E65/F01/G11)

Howdy, Bimmers! How is it going? Today I’ve changed the oil, and I want to reset the system on the BMW 7-Series E65/F01/G11 for oil service light. So you know, because the oil sensor will tell you, of course, when oil is dirty, you need to change it, but you need to go into the system to reset it.

We’ll show you how to reset your service things. But unless you’ve repaired it, you can follow the procedure. Do not reset it for your safety and everybody else’s safety as well. So come on, let’s take a walk down there, and I’ll show you to do that.

How to Reset Oil Service Light On BMW 7-Series

Warning! Please note your vehicle model. This tutorial will hold true for the BMW 7-Series 745i/740i/750i/740e/730i/M760Li (2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 model years).

BMW E65/E66/E67/E68 (745i)

Time needed: 3 minutes

Resetting the service reminder in BMW 7-series E65/E66/E67/E68 can be performed without a diagnostic tool. It’s a very simple process, and I want to walk you through the steps. So let’s go ahead and get started.

  1. Put on the ignition

    First insert the key into the slot and push the START button one time

  2. Hold down the cluster button

    Then press and hold the left instrument cluster button until it’s going to populate a little list of services inside the speedometer area

  3. Highlight the ENGINE OIL

    Once it does you hit the left cluster button to scroll through the services displayed and highlight the ENGINE OIL

  4. Press and hold the cluster button

    To do a reset you would press and hold the left button and in the right panel you’ll get the options of Back and Reset

  5. Go to RESET

    So now you press the button again to goes through the RESET option 

  6. Hold down the cluster button

    Finally, you would press and hold it again and that’s going to finalize a reset for each respective service

BMW F01/F02/F03/F04 (740i 750i)

  • Switch on the ignition
  • Then press and hold RESET button on the dash
  • Release the button when you see car image on the screen
  • Hit the same button to browse though different inspections and find the ENGINE OIL
  • So then press and hold the RESET button when you are on the right one
  • Now it’s gonna say Perform Reset? So hold down the RESET button to confirm
  • You’ll see progress bar on the screen, so wait for it to finish and you’re done

BMW G11/G12 (740e 730i M760Li)

  • Get in the car and hit the START button 3 times to bring you to the Diagnostic mode
  • Then you’re just gonna hold the RESET button down and it should bring up another menu
  • At this point it told you that the service item who would reset possible. So I’m just gonna hit the button to find the ENGINE OIL
  • After that let me just hold it down again and it’ll says RESET?
  • Finally I’m gonna hold it down one more time to confirm the reset
