The first generation was launched on the market in 2000 and remained on sale until 2006; the second generation is currently in production since 2009. Both generations have been conceived as hybrid vehicles with an electric-thermal system.
The first Honda Insight is developed as a small two-seater coupé, characterized by exasperated aerodynamic profiling (Cx 0.25) and by the search for less weight: in particular, most of the external panels and the body are made of aluminium alloy. To improve rear visibility, the halved rear window solution (the highly inclined top and the vertical lower part), already seen on the Honda CRX, is used.
