2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Oil Life/Oil Change Light Reset Guide

Warning! Please note your vehicle model. This tutorial will hold true for the first generation of the Chevrolet Cobalt (2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 model years).

DIC Button Method

Time needed: 3 minutes

So here we go. We’re going to reset the oil life light on a Chevy Cobalt, so we’re going to be using the Enter and Info buttons. Let me show you how o do it.

  1. Switch on the ignition

First, put the key in the on position without starting the vehicle

  2. Clear any message

Then if you’re going to see the message display on the dash we’re going to skip through that with the INFO button until we come to the Oil Life

  3. Hold in the ⏎ ENTER and the INFO button

To reset it you press and hold the ⏎ Enter and the Info button on the steering wheel or on the instrument panel at the same time for 2 seconds

  4. Release the buttons

After that, release it and then it says Oil Life Reset

  5. Hold down the ⏎ ENTER button

Next, we’re going to hold down the Enter button for 2 seconds and the ACKNOWLEDGED will show on the screen so that means your oil light has been reset

Gas Pedal Method

Now I’m going to try this other method to reset the oil life on this car. So let’s go ahead.

  • First, you got your key in the ignition and turn it to click forward so your ignition turn on
  • Then depress the GAS pedal three times all the way down three times within ten seconds of turning the ignition on and the light will flash to confirm the reset
  • After that, you just gotta run it to make sure we’re all good

Well, that works super easy, and that must be the way to go if you don’t have the other buttons that they’re talking about in the manual. I hope you’re having a good weekend and staying safe out there. Thanks for reading!
